The Aus-Mex path to the masa mill in Midland, Texas, was a long one. In 1972, Alois Munzer, our founder, made the move from Austria to Midland upon realizing his passion for making tortillas and chips. Securing a small kitchen, Alois spent much of his days experimenting and perfecting his recipe for his restaurant, La Bodega.
Aus-Mex quickly became known as Midland’s premier source for corn tortillas and tortilla chips. So too, for other restaurants. Foodservice operators, distributors and other restaurant groups began to rely on Aus-Mex for our all natural products and our commitment to excellence in all that we do.
